There are a variety of medications which can be used to detox from opiates. I will work with you and your GP to plan your detox safely and comfortably. You may be aware of some of these substitutes, the main ones being-Methadone, Buprenorphine  Codeine along with supportive medications.

 

I will discuss the pros and cons of each so we work together. It is important that you feel this part of your journey is something you have choices in. If it is imposed, most people's instinct is to reject or rebel. So best we work together in partnership.

 

The first day (and maybe longer if needed), I will have collected your medications and stay with you throughout the day to ensure you are comfortable. Once stabilised, we can proceed with the reduction. Length of time will depend on what substance you have been taking, how much and how long. Each will influence your reaction to withdrawals. You will be  visited daily until we feel you can manage. However, some medications may require continued daily visits until you are finished this detox
